Growing Our Food Pantry

The month of May was quite busy for our food pantry! A nice group stayed for our community lunch of hot dogs and baked beans. Special thanks to Betsy Ralston for her generosity in making baked pineapple for dessert. It was delicious!

In addition, an Aetna Medicare representative visited during our food pantry distribution to answer our patrons’ questions. The representative distributed toothbrushes, toothpaste, and dental floss, which are items we would not generally have on hand to give with the food items.

On Saturday, May 13th, we also benefitted once again from the Monaca Post Office Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger campaign. We received three truckloads of food donations from people in and around Monaca! We are putting those donations right back into the community through our food pantry distributions!

Thank you to the letter carriers for undertaking this campaign again this year and for allowing our patrons to benefit from what is collected. We also thank the many wonderful church volunteers who helped sort through all of that food to get it ready for distribution! (Above is a picture of some of the volunteers hard at work.)

Coming up in June, our food pantry patrons are going to receive a special treat with their regular food items: a pound of fresh ground beef! With rising food costs, having fresh meat is a luxury that not everyone can afford. The meat was purchased at Milk House Meats, who graciously split our order into one-pound packages for us.

On behalf of the Food Pantry Team and everyone served, thank you to all who support Monaca UMC’s feeding ministries through volunteer service and monetary donations!

If you would like to make a financial contribution in support of our food pantry and community lunches, please send a check to Monaca UMC with “food pantry” in the memo, or click the button below to give now (be sure to choose “feeding ministries” from the drop-down menu):
